How to Blow-Dry Straight Hair: Tips for Best Results

alt=” Blow-drying straight hair”

The key to achieving a nice blow dry of straight hair lies in using the right products and techniques. Sadly, heat damages your hair so air drying will always be the most healthy option for your hair, but we understand that you don't always want to show up with wet hair. Just remember heat protection before blow-drying and be careful with the heat setting.

Here's our ultimate step-by-step guide to blow-drying straight hair with minimal heat damage and frizz, and maximum volume:

1 Heat protection

Always, apply a heat protection spray or cream to your hair before blow-drying!

2 Heat and speed setting

As a general rule, adjust the heat setting according to how close the blow dryer is to your hair. When working closely, use low-medium heat - like with the nozzle attachment. When further away, you can increase the heat if you want to speed up the drying.

The lower the speed, the less the frizz, ergo we recommend low-medium speed. You can speed up as long as your hair is not blown away - then you ask for frizz.

3 Start at the roots

Begin drying your hair at the roots since they take the longest to dry. This way, your ends can begin to air dry while the roots catch up. In other words, your hair will dry faster when you start at the roots. For maximum volume, move your head from side to side and upside down, while hovering the blow-dryer around your roots.

4 Leave the ends til the end

Now, it's time to dry the ends. Continue moving your head in different directions to maintain the volume and dry every area of your hair.

5 Dry to 80-100%

Blow dry your hair till around 80%, if you want to do a blowout. If not you can continue till 100%, no more! You'll know your hair is completely dry when it's not cold.

How To Do A Nice Blowout

1 Divide your hair into small sections - use hair clips to manage the sections more easily.

2 Grab a regular brush or rounded brush depending on the blowout look you want.

3 Position the brush underneath the hair section at the root. Place the blow dryer on top and start brushing downwards or outwards with tension - not too much as we don't want breakage.

4 If you want bent ends, roll the rounded brush at the end in the direction you wish.

5 Continue like this in all the sections.

6 And there you have it, a nice smooth blowout.
